# Public data on LakehouseBox

Open datasets, kept fresh from their sources, to join with your own tables in one SQL query. 18 datasets are
live in the public catalog `commons/pubdata`: Apache Iceberg, read-only for everyone, each from an open-licence source named

## The list of datasets, in every form

- **As a table:** `commons_pubdata.meta.datasets` (one row per dataset: source, licence, coverage, cadence, join keys, live
  row count and refresh time) and `commons_pubdata.meta.columns` (every column of every table, with its description).

## Reading a table

- **With an account:** `lhbox duckdb --catalog commons/pubdata`; tables are `commons_pubdata.<namespace>.<table>`.
- **From an agent with the LakehouseBox connector:** `open_public_catalog("commons/pubdata")`, then `query`.
- **Without an account:** DuckDB 1.5.5 or newer attaches the whole catalog by name, no key and no secret:
